Military Ranks

Overview

A universal hierarchy used by armies across many worlds. The titles are written with Latin letters and, where applicable, the plural takes the ending i following ancient traditions or s according to more modern customs. The highest ranks may vary depending on the country the culture or the needs of war.

Rank Ladder

  • Decan (pl. Decani): leader of a unit of ten soldiers the lowest officer rank.
  • Centor (pl. Centori): commander of about one hundred soldiers the backbone of ground formations.
  • Millor (pl. Millori): commander of about one thousand soldiers a level of operational significance.
  • General: commander of a large force a title recognized across nations.
  • Arch General: senior to a General responsible for multiple armies or large scale campaigns.
  • Marshal: traditional title of a supreme commander common in militarized societies.
  • Arch Marshal: rarely granted leads vast forces or interplanetary campaigns.
  • Magister: archaic honorary title meaning "Teacher" of the troops common in traditional or theocratic societies.

Notes

The numbers associated with each rank ten one hundred one thousand are doctrinal targets although the actual count may differ depending on the field of operations and logistics. Insignia colors and parade rituals are defined locally.
