Vorthan-3

Overview

Vorthan3 is a natural satellite of Olmara, an inhospitable celestial body of barren rocky stretches, shallow ravines and hills of hardened earth. Between them lie steppes without vegetation that descend into seas of sand and rolling dunes.

Rain is rare but when it comes it lasts for days turning the ground into a rushing river that reshapes the surface of the moon. When it stops the water quickly vanishes into the depths leaving dust and sand once more.

Sovereignty and Structure

Vorthan3 belongs to the Olmara Planetary Council and hosts an alliance military unit. The main camp is a metal complex in the center of a steppe surrounded by a wall with guard posts and rows of modular buildings for personnel, offices and storage. The sound of generators and the hum of scarab patrols fill the air with the smell of burnt metal and dust.

Facilities and Research

On the slope of a hill lies an independent facility, a research center with glass domes. Its purpose remains unknown though rumors speak of terraforming, biotechnology, deep geoscan work and experimental weapons. Soldiers avoid approaching it without direct orders.

Mining and Economy

The subsoil of Vorthan3 contains water and rare metals. Corporations from various countries of Olmara hold mining licenses and have built metal towns with offices, warehouses, workshops and small markets. One of the largest mines belongs to a corporation of the Genor house of Coritha. Workers live in four ennead shifts and return to Olmara for two ennead. Mining and transport sites are guarded by armed corporate forces.

Military Presence

The OPC force on Vorthan3 performs surveillance and maintenance missions with rotations alternating between the surface and the two large warships that patrol permanently near the moon. Fighters and transports are stationed there for landing drills and defensive deployment exercises.

History

The first to settle on Vorthan3 were Corithan soldiers who chose it as the site of a maximum security prison after the war with Lastor. The prison took the name Vorthan3 where Vorthan meant silent guardian in the Corithan military tongue. The number three remained to recall the three failed attempts to operate the installation, two of which ended in bloody uprisings and escapes.

Symbolism

Vorthan3 is a place of surveillance and exile, a body between life and desolation. It expresses the duality of discipline and abandonment that marks the far edges of human presence in the Olmara system.
