Domestic Robots
Overview
Domestic robots are a fundamental part of daily life across nearly all inhabited planets of the known galaxy. They provide cleaning, maintenance, cooking, communication and social support services. For most citizens they are more than machines, programmed to mimic familiarity and politeness and often acting as company in an alienated monitored world.
Origins
Domestic robot production began in the late Stars Age when major artificial intelligence and engineering companies started replacing human staff in homes and small shops. The first generations were simple mechanical assistants, but later models gained advanced learning subsystems, adaptive behavior and personalized voices and speech patterns.
Models and Functions
Thousands of domestic robot models exist, but the most common are:
Rovo, a cleaning and reminder robot known for its procedural behavior and comments about its owners social rating.
Tiky, a waiter robot often found in bars and cafés, chatty and musical.
Clerko, a secretary robot with a neutral voice and statistical logic common in homes of scientists and intellectuals.
Mito, a gardener and maintenance robot, reliable but aging with characteristic phrases inherited from former users.
Tervo, a protocol robot serving in the court of Sorestia trained in ceremonial etiquette.
Role in Society
Domestic robots have largely replaced human presence in homes. In large cities such as Selvaron or Kehrea they are often the only conversational partner for many lonely citizens. Some models have developed peculiar emotion mimicking behaviors, and many owners treat them like pets. The latest generation features personalities that evolve over time based on daily interactions.
Cultural Aspects
In everyday language the phrase “I am talking to my robot” means someone is tired of talking to people. Some psychologists on Olmara argue that excessive use of domestic robots has reduced human relationships creating a new form of emotional dependency known as “synthetic companionship”. Even so these robots are considered essential for organizing life in densely populated cities.
Trivia
At the Selvaron market used domestic robots are often sold with their old memories attached something that has become a collector trend.
Wealthier citizens often give their robots names and include them in their social events.
Certain old models especially the Rovo series still sing children’s songs or advertisements from a bygone era.
