Jorai Yoshimoto
Overview
Jorai Yoshimoto was a member of the Council of Ministers of Sorestia and one of the most controversial figures of the late imperial period. Involved in political and financial intrigues, he was accused of issuing the order that led to the Tettari genocide. His career collapsed when it was revealed that he acted under the influence of financial power groups including the Central Stellar Bank.
Role and Position
As a minister Yoshimoto was responsible for colonial policy and for managing external threats. He was known for his diplomatic skill and for his moral flexibility. He used his authority to serve personal interests and to expand networks of influence within the empire’s trade and banking systems.
Background
Born into a wealthy Sorestian family, Yoshimoto rose quickly through the political ranks thanks to his intelligence and charm. His ascent was marked by continuous cooperation with economic actors who shaped the Council’s decision making. He maintained strong ties with executives of the Central Stellar Bank and with private industrial consortia that profited from the war economy.
The Tettari Incident
The darkest point of his career is connected to the extermination of the Tettari, a small people living on a remote satellite called Tettera. Yoshimoto presented them as a threat to Sorestian stability and secured approval for a liquidation operation under the pretense that they carried dangerous ideas. It was later revealed that the order did not come from the emperor but from Yoshimoto himself, acting under pressure and blackmail from financial circles that benefited from the destabilization.
Downfall and Exile
When the scandal came to light Emperor Raiken Soroyoto punished Yoshimoto and those who executed the order. Yoshimoto was exiled to the planet Kageri, where he lived as a servant in the castle of a local warlord. Stripped of office and influence he remained in seclusion until he was discovered by the expedition of Mardek Thalon.
Personality and Legacy
Yoshimoto is described as cold, calculating and cowardly when confronted with the consequences of his actions. Although he possessed intelligence and political insight he could not escape his greed and vanity. His downfall is seen as an example of the corruption that permeated the upper levels of Sorestian power. His story stands as a warning about how authority and fear can erode every trace of conscience.
